Ming Horseshoe Back Armchair

A large and beautiful Chinese chair of a dense heavy and highly polished wood that has been called Huanghuali, though with our limited experience in early Chines furniture we prefer to just call it oriental hardwood. The chair originally had a soft woven seat, but that failed at some point and has been replaced with solid wood. The style and workmanship could place this chair in the Ming Dynasty, but the condition makes us think that is likely from the 19th century.
