Yomud Turkmen Pile Woven Ok Bash [uuk bash]

This uncommom Turkmen weaving was created as a bag to cover the ends of the tent poles when the nomadic people had folded their yurt and were on the move. It has now been opened for display flat on the wall, but originally the sides were sewn together and the four triangular sections at the bottom were joined to form the bag.  These bags are known in both pile woven and flat weave examples. This one is pile woven and retains its full pile. It displays an interesting two color selvedge.
