The Columbiad, Joel Barlow, an American Epic Poem

The publication, in 1807, of this epic poem has been described as “the graphic arts event of the decade: it was the first American-made deluxe book to be manufactured on a cost-is-no-object basis.” This copy of the first printing is extra-illustrated with facsimile autographs of the signers of the Declaration of Independence. It is in a fine original tooled and gilt leather binding, a bit bumped at the corners and with a reattached section of leather on the back board that suffered some damage.
