Silon Amos Henkel, Pair of Portraits.

A pair of folk art charcoal and pencil on heavy paper profile portraits by Silon Henkel of New Market, Virginia in the Shenandoah Valley. Both subjects, presumably husband and wife, are depicted in paint decorated, bamboo turned side chairs. The works of Silon Henkel have been well known and associated with the Henkel family for generations, but only specifically identified in recent times. Similar portraits are in the Museum of the Shenandoah Valley and other Virginia institutions.

The images measure about 5 x 3.75

They each show some signs of poor handling in the past, but are now very carefully matted and framed in appropriate period frames.
