Queen Hortense, Napoleons Stepdaughter, Bronze Medal

This small portrait medallion was designed by Bertrand Andrieu to commemorate the visit of Queen Hortense to the Paris mint in 1808. Copies have been struck in Silver and bronze at various times over the years. We do not know exactly when this example was struck. It is set into plaster so we can not see the back and is framed in a 19th century grain painted frame. The Metropolitan Museum’s copy was struck about 1885.

The medal itself is about 7/8″
