Pair Whieldon Type Creamware Plates

These attractive 18th century mottled, sometimes called tortoise shell, glazed plates are of the type that has been called Whieldon for years. Many other English potters besides Thomas Whieldon produced wares of this style. The backs are different enough on these two plates to raise the question of their right to be called a pair, but the fronts are very close and we know they have been together for a generation. One has a tiny edge flake.
