Miniature Portraits by Albert Theer, Vienna

An interesting group of five fine miniatures by Viennese artist Albert Theer of the same subject at various stages of life from 30 to 60. Each portrait is identified on the back as Carl Johne, a middle class bookbinder  who was born in 1813. The inscriptions then go on to indicate that the images are taken from various photographs with the photographers named and all painted by Theer in 1890. The one portrait that shows Mr. Johne with his hair parted on his right says that it was taken from a daguerreotype which would have reversed the image. We would be interested to know if anyone has seen similar groups or knows a reason why this would have been produced.

Each portrait measures 2.8″ x 2.2″   They are framed together in a Victorian walnut frame.
