A top quality Georgian sterling serving dish with the engraved arms of King George III. This lidded server with a turned pear wood handle has a double bottom so that it could hold hot water to keep the food warm. It was made by John Scofield, one of London’s best silversmiths at the time. Silver with the King’s arms could have been for the royal household or for the use of an ambassador. The wooden handle would have unscrewed to fill the water reservoir, but it is currently frozen in place.
