Lafayette, The Nation’s Guest, Blue Staffordshire Pitcher

A large blue transfer printed water pitcher by Staffordshire potters Ralph and James Clews made to commemorate Lafayette’s visit to America in 1824-5. This design with a Portrait of Lafayette on each side and titled “WELCOME LAFAYETTE THE NATION’S GUEST AND OUR COUNTRY’S GLORY” is much less common that the scene of Lafayette’s landing at New York.
