James Beck Furniture, Stamped “J. Beck”

James Beck [no relation] had a cabinet and chair manufacturing business in downtown Fredericksburg at the end of the 18th century and into the early 19th. He is well known for his Windsor chairs but also did other case furniture. His Windsors look much like common Philadelphia hoop back chairs with bamboo turnings. Some are stamped “J. Beck” but we would like to see any similar chair with a local history.

The inlay around the top of our Beck branded chest seems distinctive and we would be very interested in seeing any other pieces with similar inlay.
