This lovely old pieced quilt has dozens of signatures that seem to place it in the Winchester and Enfield Massachusetts area. The most interesting name that we were able to track down a bit is “Rev. James H. Dill” Rev. Dill, a Congregationalist, shows up in Spencerport, NY as well as Massachusetts before he went to a church in Chicago. He became a Chaplain in an Illinois regiment and died at the Battle of Murfreesboro.
I’m sure there are other interesting names.
It has been used and has some small degraded patches.
