Detwiller, [1882-1953] was a graduate of Lafayette College who went on to receive a law degree and study architecture in Paris, but decided to become a painter. His summer studio was in New Harbor, Maine, the setting of this painting. He also had a winter studio in Carnegie Hall in New York City. From 1948 until his death in ’53 he was the artist in residence at Lafayette College.
