Cabriole leg bed bolt cover

This is a bed bolt cover from the foot post of a high style mid-eighteenth century cabriole leg bed. This piece was held in place by the small piece of hardware that you see on the back and would have appeared to blend seamlessly with the rest of the bed post. It is mahogany and I believe it to be British, though there was a bed sold at Sotheby’s last year cataloged as New England with the same sort of bolt covers.

Just a fragment, but a pretty cool fragment.
