English Pratt Ware/Pearlware “Duke of York & Royal Sufferers” Jug

A rare and interesting pearlware jug molded on one side with a portrait of the Duke of York and on the other with A medallion of Louis XVI, Marie Antoinette and the Duaphin. The best book we have on Pratt Ware says that a matching jug in the V&A is called Lafayette rather that the Duke of York, but that that is incorrect and the portrait may have been renamed for the American trade. It is a colorful and well molded pitcher with two tight hairlines and a small old chip to the spout.
