A beautiful little piece by the specialist maker Edward Smith of Birmingham. The interior gilt is perfectly preserved and displays a very nicely engraved grill. It may have been fitted with a tiny hanging ring.
It weighs just over one third of a troy ounce, about the same as a hummingbird.
