Athena & Poseidon Bronze Plaquette From a Cameo Owned by Lorenzo de’ Medici

A fine quality and beautiful small bronze cast from a famous ancient Roman cameo now in the National Archeological Museum of Naples. The original cameo is usually dated to the first century BC and is first mentioned in the Medici inventory of 1465. As with many ancient pieces collected by Lorenzo his mark “LAVR MED” has been added and appears in this bronze, which we believe to have been cast in the 18th century. An early and fascinating Grand Tour souvenir.
