This magnificent five piece service was made by the New York firm of Grosjean & Woodard for the Charleston firm of Hayden & Whilden. All five pieces are fully marked for both the maker and retailer and also say “Charleston S.C.” There is a similar, but somewhat less elaborate, four piece set on display in the Charleston Museum. This silver came to us directly the family that had owned it since it was new and is accompanied by considerable documentation. The workmanship is of the highest order and the condition is superb.
The five pieces weigh 158 troy ounces.
