4th Earl of Loudoun, Royal Governor of Virginia, His Bookplate in Opera et Fragmenta, 1713

These two huge volumes are an astonishing early 18th century book publishing effort with over 1700 printed pages of Latin text and numerous copper engraved head and tail pieces all in a very elaborately gilt tooled leather binding. Volume one displays the bookplate of John Campbell, 4th Earl of Loudoun and Governor General of the Virginia colony. His father Hugh, 3rd Earl of Loudoun is included amongst the subscribers.

The original bindings are in need of restoration.
