Jeffersonian Franco Piedmont Virginia Furniture

Thomas Jefferson, after his time in France in the 1780’s, encouraged the production of furniture with a slightly French flavor. Pieces were made at his own Monticello joinery and by other shops in the area. This Pembroke table is more nearly square [27 x 25.5] than the “English” versions. The one drawer table [19 x 26] displays the scratch beaded, top and bottom edge only, drawer front that is sometimes associated with Monticello.
