Isle of Wight Sand Paintings, Carisbrooke Castle, John Dore

Isle of Wight Sand Paintings, Carisbrooke Castle, John Dore

These two small works are well preserved examples of the sand painter’s art. The images are created with colored sand and marble dust creating more texture than is is possible with a typical oil painting. John Dore and his brother produced a number of similar works in the early/mid 19th century. One of these is of Carisbrooke Castle. The other is probably recognizable to someone more familiar with Isle of Wight.

They are well preserved in the their original gilt wood frames.
