Georgian Brass Dish Cross

Georgian Brass Dish Cross

A truly rare item in English brass. The vast majority of British dish crosses of the mid 18th century were sterling silver. By the end of the century large numbers of Sheffield plate ones were being produced, but early brass dish crosses like this are seldom seen. Our example is quite similar to the one on page 281 of Rupert Gentle’s “Domestic Metalwork” but with better feet. Much of the original silvering remains.
